Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work.
Did the Sgt Maj ever admit that you were right about the rounds after all? I know in the Air Force it’s a point driven home and certainly affects lift, and aircraft performance.
No, I don't think we ever talked about it again to be honest. To be fair, it might have been possible that all the sights on the weapons were off (maybe bumped in travel?) so there were possibly other explanations, but it made very little sense that gunners who'd been hitting targets pretty much every time before we arrived in theatre were all of a sudden missing everything.
Fair enough. I have only had the opportunity to fire rockets a few times, never enough to be consistent, but sure was fun. Mind you that’s in peace time so hopefully the troops had more rounds to hone in their skills.
